Interview - WILD FRONTIER

Mario:

You´re welcome. Thank you for giving us the chance to let me speak to our Japanese friends. It´s a great honor for me.

こちらこそ、日本のフレンドに話せる機会を作ってくれてありがとう。　とっても嬉しいよ。

 

Fuchsia:

I heard your 5th album “2012” took 2 years to make. Why was that?

5作目のアルバムの制作には2年間かかったそうですが、何か理由でもありますか？

 

Mario:

We took 2 years for the recording because we had a few problems with the studio equipment and on the other hand, Jens had private problems, cause his father was very sick so he was not able to continue with the studio works for a longer time. We hadn´t any pressure so it doesn´t matter how long we recorded.

レコーディングに2年間かかったのには、スタジオ機材のトラブルとか Jens の父親が具合悪くて長時間スタジオでの仕事がままならなかったというような事情があったからなんだ。　どんなに時間がかかろうがぜんぜん平気だったよ。

 

Fuchsia:

You play catchy lines and cool riffs in the album “2012” as usual. What is the most important to you when you write a song?

アルバム "2012" でもキャッチーなメロディラインやカッコいいリフを聴かせてくれていますが、曲作りで一番大事にしてることはどんなことですか？

 

Mario:

The most important is the hookline and the melody. Then comes one to another. Each instrument is very important and the sound should be crisp and comfortable. It took us a long time to become the sound that we wanted. It should be modern and also traditional.

フックやメロディは最も重要だね。 それが次々につながるんだ。 各楽器の演奏も重要で、歯切れ良く心地いいサウンドじゃないといけない。 納得いく音を出すのには時間がかかるよ。 現代的でなおかつ伝統的なものじゃないとダメだからね。

 

Fuchsia:

Where did you record the album? Is there any episode we don’t know during the recording?

アルバムのレコーディングはどこで行ったのですか？ 収録時の何かエピソードはありましたか？

 

Mario:

We recorded at Prime Studios. That´s in the middle of Germany. Jens did all the studio work except the master mix. We did the final mixing session in a huge master studio.

ドイツ中央部にある Prime Studios でレコーディングしたんだ。 マスタリング用のミキシング以外のスタジオ作業はすべて Jens がやり、最終ミキシングは大きなメインスタジオを使用して行った。 

 

Fuchsia:

I think the video “It’s All Over Now” is very well done. We can see all members look like upbeat guys in the video. Tell us what personality each member has.

"It's All Over Now" のビデオはよく出来ていて、とても陽気なメンバーたちのようですが、それぞれの性格などを教えてもらえますか？

 

Mario:

Thank you for the compliment. We produced the video with a friend of the band. His Name is Andreas Panow. He was so euphoric that he wanted to shoot a second and a third song. But we produced only a second one, which will be released in June. It was produced at Sleeping Beauty castle named Sababurg. It was a fabulous location. We had been all in a good mood during this session. It was great fun for us, cause we did it the first time.

嬉しいね。ビデオはバンドの友人 Andreas Panow と共同で製作したんだ。　彼はやる気満々で2番目と3番目の曲を撮影したがっていたんだけど、6月にリリースされる2番目の曲だけを製作することにした。　Sababurg (ザバブルク) といういばら姫の城で撮影したんだけど、素晴らしいロケ地で、みんなこの間ずっとご機嫌だったね。　初のことだったので、すごく楽しかったよ。

 

Let me now introduce my band members:

バンドのメンバーを紹介しよう。

 

Jens: the vocalist, guitar player and head of the band is a very solid and ambitious person. An excellent guitar player. I know him since 40 years and I appreciate him very much.

ボーカルとギターを担当していてバンドのフロントマンだ。　非常に堅実で野心家だ。　優れたギタリストで、彼とは40年来の付き合いで彼には大いに感謝している。

 

Thomas: A well tempered person. It´s great to drink a few beers with him. Also a great musician on keyboard and on guitar too.

温厚な男で、ちょっとビールを付き合うには最高だよ。　キーボーダーとしてもギタリストとしても文句なし。

 

Sascha: He has nearly the same characteristics like Thomas, well tempered but I must admit he can drink a few beers more like Thomas and me. He´s a machine. And he is very motivated and reliable. He is not only a good guitar player, he is also a very talented drummer. You can hear it on a few songs of the new album.

Thomas と同様温厚な性格だけど、僕や Thomas なんかよりもっとビールを飲むんだ。　彼はマシーン並みだよ。　それに意欲的で頼れる男だ。　いいギタリストというだけじゃなく、才能のあるドラマーで、アルバムの中でも数曲叩いている。

 

Nico: He is the brother of Sascha and he is more the agile person. A real talented and accurate drummer. But unfortunately he was not performing on the videos. At this time we had Sascha on drums, than he joined to the band.

Sascha の弟で、なかなか機敏な男だ。 才能があり的確なドラマーだが、今回のビデオでは Sascha がドラムを担当していて、Nico は残念ながら登場していない。　後で加わったからね。

 

Fuchsia:

Which song is your favorite in the album “2012”? Tell us each member’s favorite.

アルバム "2012" の中でお気に入りの曲を、メンバーそれぞれ教えてください。

Fuchsia:

Tell us about the background that Nico Fahrenbach joined the band as a drummer.

ドラマーとして Nico Fahrenbach がバンドに加わった経緯を教えてください。

 

Mario:

It was during a training lesson of the band as Sascha told us, that his brother is also drummer and he would be very interested for the job. So we invited him and Sascha moved to the guitar. We were all so impressed about the sound and so we decided to change the line up. Most of the songs were composed for two guitars. So it was the right way, to perform with 5 members on stage.

バンドの練習をやってたときに、Sascha から弟もドラムやってて一緒にやりたがってるという話があった。 それで Sascha をギター担当に移して Nico を受け入れることにしたんだ。 彼の出すサウンドはすごかったし、ラインナップを替えることにしたんだ。 ほとんどの曲はデュアルギター用に作られていて、5人でステージに立つのにピッタリだった。

 

Fuchsia:

We know the band name comes from the Gary Moore’s album. Are you a fan of him or have you ever played with him?

バンド名は Gary Moore のアルバムから取ったものだということは知っていますが、彼のファンなのですか、それとも彼と一緒にプレイしたことがあるのですか？

 

Mario:

No unfortunately not, but we saw him a few times on stage. He was our hero. We saw him fist at the “Wild Frontier “ Tour in 1987. So the name of the Band was born. Our musician career (Jens & Me) started in 1985 as Gary Moore released “Out In The Fields”. We had been so impressed of the song that we both decided to buy instruments and found a band. And so we are here 27 years later. I wouldn´t dream of such a thing to give an interview for a Japanese Webzine. I appreciate the Japanese very much and it´s my biggest wish to perform in Japan once a day.

残念ながら一緒にプレイしたことはないけど、何度か彼のステージを見に行ったことがある。 最初に見たのは1987年の "Wild Frontier" ツアーだった。 そしてそれがバンド名になった。 僕と Jens のスタートは1985年、Gary Moore が "Out In The Fields" をリリースした年だ。 僕ら2人はその曲にすごく感動して、楽器を買ってバンドを作ることにしたんだ。 それから27年が経った。 日本のウェブマガからこうしてインタビューされるなんて夢にも思っていなかったよ。 日本のみんなに感謝してるし、いつか日本でライブすることは僕の最大の願いだ。

 

Fuchsia:

The last thing, would you like to tell something to your new fans and Japanese fans?

最後に、新しく WILD FRONTIER のファンになった人や日本のファンに一言お願いします。

 

Mario:

Yes, I wish everyone all the best for the future and let me say that I was so impressed how the Japanese handled the earthquake and the Tsunami last Year. So it is a great honor for me to make them happy with good music. Thank you very much to everybody. Hope to see you on tour one day.
