Interview - DEATH AUDIO

What’s up, guys? Thanks for taking your time for this interview today.

みんな、元気？ きょうはこのインタビューのために時間をつくってくれてありがとう！

 

Karl:

Hey! No problems at all! Life’s been pretty busy as of late preparing for the launch of our new album!

やあ！ 全然大丈夫だよ。 僕らのニューアルバムの準備とかなんだかんだで毎日かなりドタバタしてるよ。

 

Fuchsia:

I would like you to tell us about your upcoming album as much as you can. Have you decided the album title and created the cover artwork yet?

その次回作のアルバムのことで、できる範囲でいいんだけど教えてくれない？ アルバムタイトルとかカバージャケットのデザインとかもう決まったの？

 

Karl:

The album will be self titled (“Death Audio”), and covers such a diverse range of metal styles. One minute your are listening to something on the verge of death metal, then the next, you’ll find yourself singing along to a catchy chorus! Our sound has definitely matured a lot from what it was and its quite evident that we’ve done some experimenting with this album. We’ve even included synth parts and orchestral instruments! The album sounds huge! Look at it like a hot curry! Its face melting – and might just make you shit your pants! Haha! The Cover artwork is done, I’m not going to give it away completely, but the theme of beauty within horror is meant to represent Death Audio – Melodic, but still brutal.

セフルタイトルで “Death Audio” さ。 メタルスタイルのいろんなレンジに広がりを持たせたものだ。 デスメタルの触りの部分をちょっと聴けば、キャッチーなコーラスに合わせて一緒に歌ってる自分に気づくはずだ。 僕らのサウンドは以前よりだいぶ成長したし、それはこのアルバムでチャレンジしたことが立派な証拠だ。シンセパートやオーケストラの楽器なんかも取り入れた。 壮大なサウンドだよ。 スパイシーなカレーを想像してみて。 顔がとろけるよね… ひょっとしたら、おもらししちゃうかも。(笑)　 カバージャケットの方は出来てるけど、まだ完全じゃない。 でもホラーの美というテーマは、メロディックだけどブルータルで、僕ら DEATH AUDIO を象徴しているはずだ。

I listened to some new songs from the album including the track featuring Yvette from ALPINE FAULT playing violin parts. I think that your music gets an enrichment and expanse by adding the violin effect. Where’d the idea came from?

ALPINE FAULT の Yvette がバイオリン弾いてる曲や新曲なんかを聴かせてもらったけど、バイオリンが入ったことで、広がりのある豊かな音楽になってる気がするんですが、その発想ってどこから湧いてきたの？

 

Karl:

We think it fits perfectly! A few of us guys listen to a bit of symphonic black metal and love the use of orchestral instruments in metal. Josh just loves listening to classical ballet music while he works out too! After hearing Yvette’s playing in Alpine Fault (What an awesome band!) we had to get her on the album! She wrote and recorded her part on the track ‘Obstructions’ and sent it to us. She really did an amazing job!

マッチしてるだろ。 僕らの中にシンフォニック・ブラック・メタルっぽいのを聴いてるヤツがいて、そいつメタルにオーケストレーションされてるのが好きなんだ。 Josh（ジョシュ）なんて、フィットネスしながらクラシックバレエの曲とか聴いてるんだよ。 Alpine Fault （すごいバンドだ！）で Yvette の弾いてるのを聴いて、アルバムに彼女を入れなきゃあ！て思ったんだ。 彼女は “Obstructions” 内の自分のパートを書いてレコーディングして送ってくれた。 すごくよく出来てたよ。

 

Fuchsia:

We can see you guys having fun on recording at a studio in videos you have uploaded. Tell us something you can share with us on the recording. Any funny episode?

アップされたビデオを見ると、みんなスタジオでのレコーディングを楽しんでいたようですね。 収録中に面白いエピソードかなんかあったら教えてよ。

 

Karl:

We love clowning around as a band, especially when we’re on the road together! Our time mixing the album in Sydney was so much fun and there was plenty of drunken shenanigans. I can’t give you a single story because there are so many but our motel room 90’s boy band youtube dance/sing off was pretty fucking hilarious!

バンドで一緒に出かけたりするときは特にそうなんだけど、みんなふざけ回るのがメチャ好き！ シドニーでミキシングしたときなんて、酔っぱらっていろんないたずらしたりなんかして最高に楽しかったよ。 いっぱいあって話きれないけど、モーテルの部屋で繰り広げられる90年代のボーイズバンドの YouTube ダンスとか歌なんて超笑えたね。

Fuchsia:

I recognized you put the member’s portraits which were awesome on your website. Who drew those for you?

ホームページにすてきな似顔絵が貼ってありますが、誰が描いてくれたの？

 

Karl:

Ah, yes, the good old brutal caricatures! They were done by an amazing artist named Uzi Emperado. Definitely check out his work!

ああ、あれね、懐かしの残酷漫画ってヤツ。 Uzi Emperado っていうアーティストが描いてくれたんだけど、ぜひ彼の他の作品も見てほしいね。

 

Fuchsia:

It seems Australian hard rock/metal bands have been activating worldwide in these years. Personally, I’m interested in your music. What about the status of your genre down there?

近年世界でオーストラリアのバンドの活躍が目覚ましいようですね。 個人的に DEATH AUDIO の音楽は気に入ってるけど、本国でのキミたちのジャンルの音楽の現状ってはどうなの？

 

Fuchsia:

Tell us what bands we might know and where – a festival, tour or wherever - you have ever played on a stage.

今までに一緒にステージに上がったことがあるバンドや、経験したことがあるフェスティバルとかツアーなんかを教えて？

 

Karl:

We’ve been lucky enough to share the stage with some pretty big names including Static X, Soilwork, The Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth, Darkest Hour, Hellyeah and Carnifex! Back in 2009 we played at the Australian Heavy Metal awards and won an award for “best new band.” One of the biggest highlights though, was playing at Soundwave Festival in Melbourne in 2010! There were so many awesome bands on that day!

僕らが有名なバンドと一緒にステージに立てたことはとってもラッキーだった。 たとえば、Static X とか Soilwork、The Black Dahlia Murder、Unearth、Darkest Hour、Hellyah、それに Carnifex とか。 2009年にThe Australian Heavy Metal Awards に参加して “Best New Band” に選ばれたし、何と言ってもハイライトは、2010年のメルボルンで Soundwave Festival に出場したことだな。 その日はすごいバンドがいっぱい出たんだよ。
