Thanks for being with us for the interview today. First of all, we would like to say congratulations on your new album releasing.

きょうはインタビューに応じていただきありがとうございます。 まずは、ニューアルバムのリリース、おめでとうございます。

 

Gérard:

My pleasure! It’s an honor to answer you and give me the opportunity to be closer to our Japanese friends and fans! Many thanks for the support on our new album.

こちらこそ、ありがとう。 日本の友だちやファンに接する機会を作ってもらえて光栄だよ。 ニューアルバムの応援もしてくれてとても感謝してる。

 

Fuchsia:

I’m wondering this 3rd album DREAMS is a kind of a concept album?

この3作目の DREAMS は、コンセプトアルバムと考えていいんでしょうか？

 

Gérard:

Yes it is. Each song is a little story based on the dreams of some people. The link between all the songs is our mascot, the Morphoenix who is able to come inside the dreams of these people. In this dreams he can be a witness or an actor. As you can see fantasy and science fiction are again present on this album but it’s done in a more subtle way than in the past and some of the lyrics are quite deep, emotional even metaphysical because of the life after death connections.

そうだね。 曲それぞれ、ある人たちの夢をベースにした話になっているんだ。 僕らのマスコットで、その人たちの夢の中に入り込むことができる Morphoenix というのがあるんだけど、すべての曲がそれにつながっていて、夢の中では彼が目撃者でもあり役者でもある。このアルバムではファンタジーや SF の世界が広がっているんだけど、以前のものより鋭く仕上げてあって、歌詞にかなり深みを持たせ、心理的で死後の世界につながる霊的なものまで入れている。

Fuchsia:

We can obviously hear more wider and deeper epic arrange on each tracks of this album than the previous one. What was the most important point or concern about for the album this time?

全曲、前作より広がりや奥行きのあるエピックなアレンジになっているような気がしますが、今回のアルバムの最大のポイントや気にかけた点はどんなところですか？

 

Gérard:

It came that way. To tell the truth, the 1st song completely written were short songs like “Release the Unreal” but when I was writing the other songs one idea was leading to an other and I was taken in a creative flow that made me write in an epic way! I was tempted first to cut the songs for example to put the acoustic or piano introduction parts of “The meeting” and “Goodbye” as separated introductions but in the end I decided that if the music was written to last 8 minutes long it was meant to be like this! I’m really proud of that album, when I was writing and arranging the song “Nightmare King” I was really surprising myself on how many riffs and moods I was able to create in one song! The people will have to listen carefully to the album, many details, melodies can be revealed listening after listening! At the same time the catchy, punchy and melodic sides are still present because I don’t want the music to be too difficult to listen too.

そうだな、実は1曲目は "Release The Unreal" みたいに短い曲だったんだけど、別の曲を作ってるときに浮かんだアイデアがそっちにつながってしまい、その流れでエピックな方向に行ってしまった。 最初別々のイントロとして、たとえば "The Meeting" や "Goodbye" のアコースティックやピアノ導入部分を入れるために歌を削除したくなったんだけど、もし8分の曲だったならと成るべくして成ったと思うことにした。 このアルバムを誇りに思ってる。 ″Nightmare King" を作っているときだったんだけど、1曲の中でどのくらいリフやムードを作れるものなのか、自分でもホントにびっくりした。 アルバムっていうのは、何度となく聴いてみると細かい要素だとかメロディーが浮き出てくるので、注意深く聴いてもらいたいね。 それに、あまり小難しい音楽にはしたくないので、キャッチーでパンチの利いたものやメロディックなところは残しておくんだ。

 

Fuchsia:

It is amazing that four great musicians have been featured on this album. Ricardo Confessori on drums and three guitarists, Mark McGee, Chris Caffery and Rob Love Magnusson, joined with you. Tell us about this background they would play with you for the album.

このアルバムでは4人の素晴らしいミュージシャンがフィーチャーされていてすごいですね。 Ricardo Confessori がドラムに、Mark McGee や Chris Caffery、そしてRob Love という3人のギタリストが参加していますが、彼らがアルバムに加わった経緯を教えてください。

Fuchsia:

Where did you record this album? Was there any interesting episode or unforgetable experience on the recording this time?

レコーディングはどこで行ったのですか？今回のレコーディングでは、何か面白いエピソードや忘れられないような出来事はありましたか？

 

Gérard:

Besides the guest, I recorded the album in my studio called Morphoenix! I edited and mixed the part of everyone there. My fear was that the parts from the guests would not fit as I was not there to record them, but everything came quite smooth! There were no bad things on the recording and mix! It was an interesting challenge to mix all these parts and you should have seen the salts of joy I did when hearing the final results and performances!

ゲスト分以外は Morphoenix と名付けた僕のスタジオで行った。 それぞれのパートの編集やミキシングもそこでやった。 ゲストパートのレコーディングには立ち会っていなかったので、果たしてうまく合うかどうか不安だったんだけど全て順調にいったし、レコーディングでもミキシングでも何も問題なし。 それぞれのパートをミックスさせるのは面白いチャレンジだったね。 最終的な結果つまりアルバムを聴けば、僕の努力の結晶が分かってもらえると思う。

 

Fuchsia:

I have a feeling that the French Prog Metal is a pretty small scene compared to other European countries. Tell us the actual situation on metal bands at the metal scene in your country.

他のヨーロッパ諸国と比べると、フランスのプログレメタルシーンというのは幾分狭い感じがするのですが、フランスでのメタルバンドの実情を教えてもらえますか？

 

Gérard:

For some reasons, a lot of French bands don’t get their albums published or distributed outside France or-and Europe. There are not a lot of managers working this style so it’s pretty hard to get decent deals and the albums out worldwide. But there is really some talent here quite a lot of good bands but the professional structures are not as good as the ones in Germany or Sweden. Sadly some important labels or media don’t take French bands seriously and that is not helping at all!

いくつか理由はあるんだけど、フランスのバンドの多くは国外のヨーロッパでは、アルバムを販売しないんだ。 こういうのに携わるマネジャーも少ないので、いい契約とかアルバムの世界発売はかなり困難かな。 才能のあるいいバンドが結構いるけど、ドイツやスウェーデンのような専門的な整ったいい環境じゃないし。 メジャーなレーベルやメディアなどもフランスのバンドは相手にしてくれないし、全然当てにもならなくて残念だよ。

Fuchsia:

I believe you can sing any song, cant you? I’m just curious to know what kind of music you are usually listening to at home or while driving. Don’t tell me you are growling all the time. (Haha)

当然どんな歌でも歌いますよね。 自宅とか運転中にはいつもどんな音楽を聴いているのか気になるんですが。 いつもグロールしてるなんて言わないでくださいよ。（笑）

 

Gérard:

He he, that happens when I receive my bills to pay! I listen to a lot of Hard Rock and Metal but I’m also open to artists like Tori Amos, Sting, Hiromi (yes the great Japanese pianist!), The Beatles, Bjork to name a few and a bit of Jazz, Prog, Classical and old pop stuff. But I’m a rocker first! I also sing in a Led Zeppelin tribute called Vonzepp so you see I love Led Zeppelin!

アハハ、請求書とか来たときにはそうなるね。 ハードロックやメタルが多いけど、Tori Amos とか Sting、Hiromi （そう、素晴らしい日本のピアニストだ！）、The Beatles、Bjork なども聴くし、たまにジャズとかプログレ、クラシック、昔のポップスのたぐいも聴くよ。 ともあれ、僕はロッカーだからね、Led Zeppelin のトリビュートバンド Vonzepp で歌っているので、Zeppelin 好きだってわかるよね。

 

Fuchsia:

What’s on your agenda as the band for 2012?

2012年、バンドとしてはどんな計画がありますか？

 

Gérard:

Concerts, doing videoclips, answering many interviews and writing new songs!

ライブやったりビデオを作ったり、インタビューもいっぱいこなして、新曲を書くことかな。

 

Fuchsia:

The last thing, would you like to tell something to your new fans and Japanese fans?

最後に、新しくファンになった人や日本のファンに一言お願いします。

 

Gérard:

Oh yes thanx a lot for the support so far and welcome to the new fans! We are very sorry by what happened last year to Japan with the earthquakes and all the following consequences! We send you all our best thoughts and we admire your courage and calm! We hope we can come to tour soon in Japan and make some great concerts.
